Model-Year Timing & Order Banks
Don’t Let Timing Derail Your Fleet Plan
In fleet management, timing is everything.
You can forecast demand, set a perfect budget, and pick the right specs — but if you miss your manufacturer’s order bank, your plan could fall apart.
At Capital Lease Group, we see it every year: fleets that miss OEM order windows end up waiting months for delivery, paying higher prices, or settling for models that don’t match their needs.
Understanding how model-year order banks work can help you lock in the right vehicles, at the right price, when you actually need them.
What Is an Order Bank?
A fleet order bank is the period when manufacturers accept new vehicle orders for a specific model year. Once that window closes, your options narrow fast.
Each OEM sets different timelines, often opening and closing months in advance — and those dates change yearly.
Miss that window, and your choices are:
- Wait for the next model year (and pay more)
- Purchase off-dealer lots (at retail prices)
- Delay critical projects or routes
None of those options help your budget — or your schedule.
The Advantage of Planning Ahead
Aligning your fleet replacement cycle with order banks gives you a major edge:
- Fleet incentives: You’ll secure volume pricing, rebates, and preferred models before supply tightens.
- Predictable delivery: You’ll receive vehicles when your operations actually need them.
- Spec control: You can build vehicles to your specifications instead of taking what’s left in inventory.
- Budget confidence: No more last-minute budget overruns or delays caused by missed cycles.
Fleet managers who plan 6–12 months ahead consistently achieve better cost control and uptime.
Plan Ahead: Understanding Fleet Order Bank Timelines for 2026
Fleet order banks for most major manufacturers typically open in the spring and summer months, giving fleet managers a window to submit vehicle configurations and secure production slots ahead of the general retail market. For example, for the 2026 model year, Ford opened the Transit (gas) order bank on June 16, 2025, with production startup scheduled for September 15, 2025, and the order cutoff date still to be determined. Because cutoff dates can be announced with little notice — and popular configurations may become unavailable even before the official close — it’s important to plan ahead and submit orders as early as possible.
